- The Sesame Street Critic
Ricky Gervais Sesame Street Performance - Self
Updated: Oct 16, 2021
When you're having trouble sleeping a celebrity lullaby can help - unless Ricky Gervais is the celebrity. The English actor is known for his comedy, but the Sesame Street critic was just as impressed by Gervais' musical talent.
Grade: A
Character: Himself
Sesame Street Characters: Elmo
Episode: #4201
Original Air Date: December 22, 2009
This is easily one of the funniest skits ever in the 51 seasons of Sesame Street. Ricky Gervais plays it perfectly with his deadpan seriousness that leads to a great back and forth with Elmo before launching into one hell of a lullaby.
It's just so perfectly executed. The only thing that may bring the performance down a tiny notch is the comedy may have been a little over kids' heads. But I think many adult viewers will find it LOL funny.
It was just, it was really funny, I think either way. So I'm gonna stick with a plus. Ricky Gervais' Sesame Street performance was just beautifully executed from a comedic standpoint and the song was actually really great. The interaction with Elmo was perfect helping to bring life into the puppet.
My only complaint is that the skit was just a few minutes of him singing a nighttime song to Elmo.
Ricky gave an A+ performance, but sadly, by the Sesame Street Critic's review criteria the highest Gervais can get is an A. To get that plus he'll have to come back and play a character that sings the next lullaby.
Sadly, no one has followed up Gervais as the next celebrity lullabies singer. Something worth considering if Sesame Street Workshop is looking for skit ideas.
What Do You Think Ricky Gervais' Sesame Street Performance?
Were you just as amused by Ricky Gervais' letter N lullaby? Or was the fact the performance was funny distract from weaker moments in the acting? You be the critic!
